Thursday Challenge-Color

These are some very bright tiles that line the side of a bridge in Portobella Road London. I only took the photo as it was a drab overcast day and these were the most striking thing I encountered.

COLOURS
The thursday challenge was colors(yes American spelling) and I couldn't decide which photo to enter. HOME

Grevillea-Kay Williams
The earlier photos of this grevillea were taken before if had fully bloomed and failed to show the beautiful pink colour. Pink just happens to be one of my favourite shades.

Monday

In the Garden

Flowers today instead of weeds. Looking at the rose I think it needs a bit of a spray.

Sunday

MACRODAY-STONE

This stone is from the Northern Territory and shows the colours of the outback. I did wet it before the taking the shot to enhance the colours.

BUSH WALK
We live on 5 acres and most of the block is still natural bush. We had not ventured down the back for at least 12 months, so went for a bit of a walk today. The result of the dry weather is very evident, Lots of young trees and bushes have died and the area is much easier to navigate. The really hardy bush grass continues to thrive The rocks have less moss on them as more sun is now getting through the canopy of the trees. We were very surprised to see the staghorn fern on the side of this rock.
It was approx. 3pm and the sun was only just touching the top fronds, so I doubt it gets any other sun all day. Plus it obviously catches any moisture that runs down the rock, so it has a good chance of surviving.

The most magnificent and best-preserved building of antiquity is the Patheon, built in A.D. 120 by the emperor Hadrian.

ROUND ROBIN PHOTO CHALLENGE

This weeks challenge is transportation and this is my first entry with the Round Robins.

TRANSPORTATION- The great adventure of 2005 was going to the UK to work for just on 9 months. We worked in Exeter (Devon ) but stayed in London a few times and during each visit we walked into London via the grand canal. The walk was just lovely and there were lots of different boats that travel along the canal. Most are lived in and serve not only as transport but as their homes.

There was a bus and the usual tour boats of the canals.

The area known as little Venice where there are moorings for the boats.
I didn't get a photo of the restaurant because there were people seated in full view of the camera and I thought it may offend.

Unlike the following fellow who seemed to enjoy having his photo taken and waved as he passed. The following photo was taken from the 21st floor of the Trellick building where we were staying with my partners brother.

They say the grass always looks greener from the other side of the fence and this seemed to be an idyllic way to spend your days, but I assume the mundane things like work and commitments also got in the way.

BEE
My Jasmine creeper is a mass of flowers at the present and attracts heaps of bees. This photo appealed to me because of how far in the flower he is and being able to see the droplet of liquid from his foot. (Do bees have feet?) Taken with my macro lens.

Monday

More Weeds
You can see how this one is carried to other areas.

This is a weed but it has an attractive flower.

In Queensland we have a lot of environmental weeds that have flourished in the warm climate.

Spent friday (after my last night shift) with Gayle Taking photos of her lovely grandson. As I was leaving she pointed out all the lovely (and odd) things in her DIL's garden that I might be interested in as photos. This is a couple of them.

Grevillea-Kay Williams Lovely warm day, so there was a couple of bees around. Night shift again so it will be early morning shots for the next 4 days.

Sunday

GALAH-
There are two different types, roseicappilla and albiceps. They basically look the same except for the colour of their eye ring.

I took this from my back deck with an 80-300 canon lens. This dead tree is typical of where they build a nest. The limb he is standing on is hollow at least some of the way down. His mate is out of view and he is defending the area from other birds. This is what made me notice them as they make a terrible noise when chasing other birds.
Bourke's Parrot.
This is a male with the female being much duller in colour. This one is a bit bald on the head.

Saturday

KOOKABURRA - Largest of the Kingfishers
Common name- laughing kookaburra or laughing jackass. Australia's happiest bird.
VOICE- Raucous 'laughter'
Habitat- open forest, woodlands and paperbark swamps.
This is a female (I think) because it has no blue on it's rump. I took this photo a couple of weeks ago up at Lamington National Park.
