MY PLACE
This area is about half way down the 5 acre block. The plant on the right bottom of the pic is the dreaded lantana which is a declared weed here. I don't think we will ever be able to get rid of it short of clearing the whole block, and I would never do that. So we just have to keep pulling it up as much as possible. Because of the drought it is not too bad at the present but the first decent rain and it will come up everywhere. Had hoped the goats would eat it, but while they do nibble at it they mainly leave it alone.

Looks like pretty woods. I don't know if it's the same stuff you're talking about here, but when I was growing up in Louisiana, we had something that looked similar that grew at an amazing rate, and we were forever out there cutting the stuff back. It's hot, humid, and rainy a lot in Louisiana, just what pest plants like.
Yes it would be the same, it needs a cold winter to keep it under control. It is a nice little shrub in Victoria.
