He seemed to make a buzzing noise as he moved around because I thought it was a dragonfly until I caught sight of him.
Same shaped eyes as butterflies.

It's a Skipper! A butterfly, I have them in Texas and the wing shape is distinctive. Found a butterfly site for your local:
