Birds - In my tree yesterday.

This photo was taken from my back deck looking back towards brisbane.
In this area we get a lot of native birds visiting the garden. Most of my trees and shrubs are Australian natives that provide the parrots and lorikeets with food. They also tolerate the dry periods better.

Rainbow Lorikeet- This photo was taken 2 years ago in my front garden. This area of the garden only gets watered with grey water and natural rainfall.

I planted a grevillea in the spot where the hibiscus that I lost was. It is a lovely fire red, according to the picture but I will have to wait and see. Decided not to replace the other one, will use it's loss as an opportunity to redo that area of the garden.

CARDINAL CREEPER This is one of my favourite plants and I had forgotten that it flowers in autumn, so arriving home to see it's wonderful display was a joy. I have it going over an archway so the flowers hang down all the way around it.

HOME I arrived home after 8 months away expecting to find my garden a mess, with few plants surviving due to the extreme summer that Queensland experienced. I was surprised to find that except for a few older hybicus everything else had made it through. While I was weeding I discovered the frog below. We have heaps of them all year round but they usually hide in dark enclosed places during the day. This is one of my roses. The photo was taken early morning so the dew drops are real and not sprayed on.

ROME- This is at the very base of the building. It is (as with most of the features) mirror reversed on the other side. These are either side of the steps that head to the war memorial. Will show that tomorrow.

Yes I have a bit of a thing for huge Roman buildings. This is only the upper edge of this building and is less than 1 third of the total building. I did buy a post card of the complete thing as it was impossible to take a clear picture of it.

There are two magnificent buildings in Rome with these statues on them. This one has only one at its centre. The other one has one at each end and can be seen a long time before you actually get close.

CARCASSONNE- France

LYME REGIS -DEVON


THE COB- pier that featured in the movie "The French Lieutenant's Woman" The day I was there extensive works were being carried out along the shore line to counter erosion. The cob is also used for an annual rememberance day to raise money for charity. Candles that are placed all along the cob are sold and numbered (so you know the position of yours, map suplied) then with the help of volunteers, they are all lit one night. I could not make it to see them lit as I was working, but it must be a very moving and spectacular sight.

For me, it was just so amazing seeing so much snow. It had been snowing most of the night (looked out the window at 1am) and I couldn't believe my eyes. Couldn't wait for daylight to come to get out and about, then spent all day snapping photos. It was just such a thrill and so awesome for someone from Australia, who had barely saw snow before.

This is actually my post from Thursday. For some unknown reason it just would not load the photo, wasted heaps of time trying. Took a 3 day tour of Scottish highlands and this shot was taken on our way to "Old man of Storr". In the photo it is to the right of the rainbow and nearly to the end of the cloud (2 pointed peaks). It is quite a hike to reach the top and I must confess, I waited just below the summit for the others to return. Beautiful views all the way around the Isle and as usual I took heaps of photos. There were only 5 others and the driver/guide for the trip. The only downside was the very vocal driver who felt that every second should be filled with his voice. Didn't mind the Scottish history or the music he played but why did he feel that we needed his opinion on religion/politics/etc.

We went to Bruge for Christmas and this was the first time I had spent Christmas away from sunny Australia. The photo was taken Christmas morning as we wandered around the town. Even though it looks lovely and sunny it was really cold and it snowed 2 days later. I love taking shots were there are reflections into the water (chocolate box pictures).

It was a lovely frosty morning, just on sunrise. I had got up early to take some photos of the autumm colours and the frost. As I was heading to the bus stop to head home I heard water running but couldn't see it as the trees and bushes still had all their leaves. Discovered this lovely little stream down an enbankment and quite a scramble from where I was.
